Over the course of the past 60 years St Benedict’s College has produced some outstanding matric results. This year has been no different. The matric group of 2018 as well as our staff can be extremely pleased with the fruits of their labour. Our boys have produced superb results in the 2018 National Senior Certificate of the Independent Examinations Board. We, as a school, are delighted with the boys’ performance and are proud of their achievements.

One hundred and twenty six boys sat the NSC examination. A summary of the results below demonstrate the calibre of teaching and learning that takes place at St Benedict’s College:

  • 100% Matric pass rate for the 44th consecutive year!
  • 97.62% University Entrance (Bachelor degree) passes
  • 2.38% Diploma Entrance passes!
  • 100% of boys qualify for tertiary studies
  • 11 subjects exceed IEB national subject averages
  • 11 subjects attained overall averages of 70% or more!
  • IT Average of 83.96% with 18 distinctions from 25 boys!
  • Music average of 80.5%
  • Maths Average of 73.36% with 39 distinctions from 95 boys
  • Science average of 72.16% with 16 distinctions from 61 boys
  • 25 boys obtained overall Distinction Averages (+80%)
  • 46 boys achieved "B" averages (+70%)!
  • 126 matriculants produce 265 distinctions!
  • Distinction ratio of 2.1 distinctions per matriculant!
  • 2 candidates on Outstanding Achievers List
  • 9 candidates obtained a full house of distinctions, they were:
    1. Dominic da Costa – 91.9% average (9 Distinctions)
    2. Danilo Perrone – 91.6% average (8 Distinctions)
    3. Christopher Roberts – 91.1% average (7 Distinctions)
    4. Sudarshan Pillay – 88.9% average (8 Distinctions)
    5. Alessio Morson – 88.3% average (7 Distinctions)
    6. James Barger – 86.7% average (7 Distinctions)
    7. Dhruva Dulani – 86.7% average (7 Distinctions)
    8. Nicholas Wright – 86.7% average (8 Distinctions)
    9. Nanxi Li – 86.3% average (9 Distinctions)
  • Dominic da Costa and Christopher Roberts feature on the IEB Outstanding Achievers' List (Top 5% nationally in 6 subjects and a distinction in Life Orientation)
  • In addition:
    • 4 candidates obtained 6 distinctions: Darragh McGrath, Nikhil Hagroo, Tristan Spurway, Craig Ransom
    • 5 candidates obtained 5 distinctions: Rethabile Mphahlele, Claudio Da Silva, Ishaam Ismail, Nicholas Warrener, Stephano Stavrides
    • 11 candidates obtained 4 distinctions
    • 11 candidates obtained 3 distinctions and
    • A further 51 boys obtained 1 or 2 distinctions

We are blessed to have the grace of God in our lives and we thank him for the immense abilities that He has bestowed on our boys. On behalf of the management team we congratulate our boys, their teachers and parents on our superb results. Attainment of this calibre is the result of a collaborative effort and we all can be proud of our boys' accomplishments. All 126 candidates are able to continue with tertiary studies. This is largely due to the efforts of our dedicated, professional and highly trained staff; the loving support of our parents and our belief in a holistic education.
