The Independent Quality Assurance Agency (IQAA) is an agency that facilitates and monitors internal self-evaluation in independent schools which are affiliated to the Independent Schools Association of South Africa. IQAA’s quality assurance mechanism is aptly entitled “School in the Mirror” and that title accurately reflects collaborative, reflective and inclusive nature of the process.
School self-evaluation is primarily about school improvement and development. The self-evaluation process enables us to take initiatives that will improve the quality of education that we provide for our boys; to affirm and build on what is working well at St Benedict’s; to identify areas in need of development and to decide on actions that should be taken to bring about improvements in those areas. It is an opportunity to report to our school community about the strengths in the work of our school and our priorities for improvement and development.
The Board of Governors of St Benedict’s has welcomed the 2013 evaluation reports for the three sections of our school and has expressed its appreciation of the efforts of all the boys, staff and parents who were involved in the process.
The reports are certainly a celebration of our strengths but do not shy away from identifying areas for improvement. The fact that all the development and improvement targets set in the 2007 reports have been met is a clear indication that the principles and practices of self-evaluation are fundamental to functioning of our school. The findings of the reports need to be read in the context of Independent Education in ISASA schools. The national norms referred to in the Executive Summary pertain to the averages of Independent Schools surveyed between January and May 2013.
The Executive Summary provided below provides an overview of our entire school from Grade 0 through to Grade 12:
